The house opens to the west, inviting you to enter and feel welcome. Facing the sunset, it establishes an intimate relationship between interior and exterior, where each space is designed to accompany the rhythm of the day.

Different outdoor environments were created, adapted to different times of use: From early morning until late afternoon, when the social space is illuminated by the last rays of sunlight — a place for pause, encounter, and contemplation.

The choice of a traditional style, characterized by the roof and stone, responds to the client’s desire to maintain an emotional connection with the south of the country, evoking memories and family reminiscences that now extend into this new home.

Edifício dos Azulejos

The project involves transforming a commercial space into a multi-family building. This change, as it relates to the existing structure, requires integration and alignment with neighboring buildings.

Located in the heart of a historic town, and with the Parish Church as its illustrious neighbor, the building requires careful consideration in the choice of form, materials, and architectural language.

The consistency of the urban fabric, guaranteed by the unification of the heights, allows not only for the growth of the building, but also its ability to transform and revitalize the street. The use of tiles on the façade evokes the village’s centuries-old tradition, reviving memories of the past and projecting them into the future.

Casa da Vitória

The house is the result of an exercise in rethinking the existing structure, the result of an extension to a house that belonged to the client’s grandparents. Filled with stories and memories, this delicate piece required care in the way it was altered, reinvented, and imagined.

In this proposal, we sought to integrate traditional elements with a contemporary language, extending the main elevation along the public road. This gesture allows greater natural light to enter, reinforces the relationship with the outdoor space, and promotes a more fluid integration with the surrounding urban fabric.

A house with history, now ready to be the setting for many more.

Casa das Bicicletas

The preliminary study of this small house, located in the heart of the Serra de Aire e Candeeiros, allowed us to explore original solutions in a small space.
The goal was to create different areas in an open space, where the staircase acts as a separating element and the focal point of the interior design.

Every detail was designed to enhance the place’s identity, integrating stone and wood as noble and distinctive materials. Inspired by the concept of a mountain cabin, we transformed an old farm outbuilding into a cozy two-bedroom home full of character.

The windows frame the landscape and invite you to experience it, while the surroundings offer authentic experiences—from bike rides to hiking trails.
The Gabriel Alba studio stands out for the way it combines architecture and design, creating unique spaces that interact with the surrounding area.

House of Nazareth

A partnership of Atelier Gabriel Alba and architect Daniela Francisco, the licensing project for Casa da Nazaré honours the unique identity of the town and the character of its alleys and lanes.

Within the dense fabric of the Sub-Vila, Casa da Nazaré respects and preserves the traditional design, aligning itself with the rhythms and proportions that define the historic area built landscape. Among the others, however, this is not a house that fades away — there is a clear intention of discreet contemporaneity.

Tree House

Located on a verdant plot of land at the foot of the Serra de Porto de Mós, Casa das Árvores is set amongst leafy canopies and ancient trunks, as if asking nature for permission to exist.The silence of the place shapes the architecture, which is designed with respect, lightness and restraint.

The house is oriented towards the interior of the landscape, with carefully positioned openings — attics that not only provide light, but also frame the trees, transforming the greenery into an integral part of the interior walls. Each view is a living window, a constantly changing picture.

Serra House

Located on a slope that exudes the identity of the mountains, this house is a tribute to the simplicity of materials and the wisdom of traditional construction.Its discreet and serene presence is created using clay, stone, cement and wood — essential elements that interact with the place without dominating it.

The roof, made of clay tiles and articulated in different slopes, gently follows the topography of the land, as if it were organically extending over the plot.This volumetric play reinforces the connection to the ground, as if the house were springing from it, respecting the rhythm of the natural landscape.

Sítias Building

Despite being designed for several families,the Sítias Building is a strategic urban intervention that maintains a unique character of a single-family home.

Within a collective building, each unit was designed with the aim of providing the comfort and privacy of an independent home. Distribution of spaces and a careful architecture guarantee a welcoming family experience, with the convenience and advantages of a more urban environment.

Casas do Barro
